I’d like to share with you my article marketing success, or at least some of my results. I’ve heard from some that articles don’t work. I disagree. In fact, I’d like to share with you a process that you can use very successfully to increase your traffic through submitting articles. I’m going to turn this into a series with the intent of outlining a process that you can replicate.
In March of 2008, I shared some of my process and results with the members of the SBI! forum. I’d like to start out by sharing those results with you here so that you can get a flavor of what I’m talking about. Then, I’ll follow up with more posts in this article marketing success series so that by the time we’re done, you’ll have the exact steps you need to take in order to recreate the same kind of success for yourself.
My original successful process for article marketing involved submitting articles via the Unique Article Wizard, and that was about it. Now, I’ve enhanced that core process, and added social bookmarking, and the repurposing of my article content for social media sites like Squidoo and Hubpages. This speeds the results, and as you’ll see, I was able to obtain a first page Google listing in less than 7 days.
Here’s an edited version of an update I posted at the SBI! forum during the first week…
A First Page Google Listing in Less Than 7 Days
My page is now on the first page of Google for my chosen search term and has made it as high as #8 (subsequently went as high as #5). I expect it to still bounce around for a couple of weeks or maybe a month until it finds its place.
The page is also #2 on Google blog search now (as I type this, it’s currently #1 on Google blog search), and I own 3 other spots there with my articles, for a total of 4/10 on the first page of Google blog search. A few of my articles are also showing up in the top 30 on Google’s regular search, but they come and go. This is expected at this point.
In about 5 days, I’ve had over 700 page views on that page, it has been the entry page to my site over 500 times, and it’s on the first page of Google for the main search term. Not bad. Here’s how I did it:
1. Created a tier 3 page on my site (2100 words) - 25 Cat Care Tips. Placed Digg buttons at the top and bottom of each page. Edited the page several times over a couple of days, added a photo, etc. and included it in SBI!’s Blog It! when it was ready. Linked to the page from the tier 2 page, “Cat Care.”
2. Bookmarked the page with getbookmark.com.
3. Submitted the page to mahalo.com (I noticed there was no page for “cat care tips” so I was the first).
4. Stumbled the page.
5. Submitted it to Reddit in the Pets section, where it promptly went… no where! But, someone Dugg the page, and it now has 2 Diggs. Digg and Reddit are a tough sell and this page doesn’t really fit the ideal profile.
6. Created an article (about 700 words) using 10 of the tips and submitted it to 292 directories via the Unique Article Wizard.
7. Grabbed 4 unique versions of the article after it was published, and added one to my Squidoo lens, one to ezinearticles.com, one to American Chronicle, and used one to create a new hub on Hubpages.com (which I had never used before but found quite easy).
8. Bookmarked the American Chronicle article using getbookmark since I noticed it was ranking in the top 30 on Google for the search term.
9. Tried to ping the Squidoo lens but it looks like pingoat has a cold. I subsequently used the tool at Squidutils.com.
And… voila… first page. I might have done better on the voting sites if I had made a more controversial article with a snazzy title, but the results are about what I expected based on past history.
OK, so from that I think you get the idea. In future posts in this series, I’ll be digging into exactly what makes this tick. That page, by the way, has settled in on the 2nd page of Google. I’m guessing I need to hit it with a couple of tweaks.
For example, I know that I’m shy about 6 instances of the primary keyword. I hope you get a lot out of this article marketing success series. Subscribe to my RSS feed for future updates, including how to format your articles, your resource box, and how to repurpose your content for other sites.
