Commenting on Dofollow (Non-nofollow) Blogs

I’d like to talk a bit about posting comments on dofollow blogs as a backlink strategy, as well as how to find them versus nofollow blogs. Typically, I don’t do much of the "commenting on blogs for fun and backlinks" type of thing, as I usually prefer to repurpose my content for article marketing and Web 2.0 properties. But, I know that a lot of people have questions about it, and it does offer a way to get some good backlinks fairly quickly.
In case you’re not aware, nofollow links have ‘rel="nofollow"’ in the link code and do not pass Google PageRank. They are therefore seen to have less value than dofollow links for SEO purposes. The term dofollow was coined to indicate a non-nofollow link (in other words, the absence of the nofollow in the link code).
Blogger? Yep. I know, everyone’s hooked on WordPress and people are often talking about how "SEO friendly" it is. Actually, that’s true, but it does take some work to get WordPress in an optimal configuration.
I switched to the Blue Zinfandel WordPress theme for a number of reasons. I mentioned in another post that I had a few problems getting Mandigo to work exactly the way I wanted, and I had some issues with some plugins as well. For one, I had to switch to the Ultimate Google Analytics plugin since the one I was using was causing comments to “disappear.”

After much resistance, I’ve joined Twitter. Many people have said, including those active on Twitter, that it might be a waste of time. They just don’t get the point. Frankly, I didn’t either. At the recommendation of John Reese, and with an endorsement from Guy Kawasaki, I have taken the plunge.

One step in the WordPress SEO process is to properly set up robots.txt so that you avoid indexing duplicate content. I’ve spent the better part of two weeks setting up my blog and ran into some conflicting information on the subject. I decided to test things out, and found some interesting things. I thought I’d share my results.
Problems with the Mandigo WordPress Theme

I’ve found a couple of problems with the Mandigo WordPress theme I’ve been trying out. I decided, at least for the moment, to stop using it, and change themes again. I was using Mandigo 1.19, SEO’d by mytypes.com, but then I decided that the newer version of Mandigo was a better choice. Of course, I always get myself into trouble when I do that.

Today begins my 40 Days of Blogging. I’m going to hit the blog hard and average at least one blog post per day for either 40 days, or until I hit 40 posts. I’ll also be promoting the blog and the main site in various ways, and I’ll clue you in on some of that here.
Blog Comments – More Traffic, or a Waste of Time?

Do blog comments bring more website traffic? In this era of Web 2.0, user generated content, a blog on every corner, and so on, does one need to have comments enabled in order to be considered a serious blogger?
Steve Pavlina disabled blog comments on his highly successful personal development blog some time ago. He posted about it and listed his reasons. Among those reasons were some interesting points, as well as some interesting data after the fact as far as the effect on website traffic.
